Organisation
The Microclimate Ecology & Biodiversity (MEB) network is a thriving community of scientists, researchers, and enthusiasts passionate about understanding microclimates across the globe. Whether you’re interested in cutting-edge microclimate research, simply contributing your data, or finding a way to engage with like-minded colleagues, there’s a place for you in the MEB-network!

How we’re organized
Our network is driven by collaboration and shared expertise. Here’s how you can get involved:
General Assembly (Annual)
The heart of our network! This once-a-year online gathering brings together all contributors for updates, discussions, and new initiatives. If you’ve shared data and opted into updates, you’re automatically part of this community!
Scientific committee (Quarterly meetings)
Where big ideas take shape! This committee:
✔️ Identifies key scientific questions
✔️ Supports data analysis & publications (reviews, perspectives, methods)
✔️ Helps establish bottom-up subgroups
✔️ Seeks funding for MEB-related research
Open to all! Sign up here to join – you’ll just be asked to renew your interest each year.
MDB Database Committee (Quarterly meetings)
Ensuring the integrity and accessibility of the Microclimate DataBase, this team:
✔️ Oversees database development, maintenance & quality control
✔️ Reviews data usage proposals
✔️ Includes permanent database managers + elected data contributors & users
We’re currently looking for representatives from North America, Oceania, and Antarctica, plus two additional data users! Interested? Apply here.
Practical Committee (Bimonthly meetings)
Keeping the network running smoothly! This team handles:
✔️ Website & social media
✔️ Organizing the general assembly
✔️ Newsletters & membership records
Want to help out? Members from other committees can volunteer for specific tasks – email meb-network@outlook.com to find out more!
Bottom-Up Subgroups
Small teams tackling big questions! These organic subgroups focus on microclimates in specific biomes, conducting case-specific research and summarizing the state of the field.
🔹 The AAA: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Microclimate Ecology
🔹 MEB Peatlands
🔹 MEB Drylands
Do you have a microclimate research focus that could benefit from a dedicated subgroup? Let’s create one together – email meb-network@outlook.com with your idea!
Initiative
The MEB-network grew out of SoilTemp, an initiative from Jonas Lembrechts (University of Antwerp), Ivan Nijs (University of Antwerp) and Jonathan Lenoir (Université de Picardie Jules Verne).
