Peatland initiative
Peatlands are naturally wet ecosystems, often lying in landscape depressions and therefore the local climate on peatlands can differ from the surrounding landscape. The results of MmMeteorological measurements on peatlands are an integral part of research on heat and greenhouse gas exchange, and form the basis of the analyses of biogeochemical or ecohydrological processes. However, the microclimatic conditions of peatlands from the perspective of biodiversity and biogeography, as well as their ability to function as refugia for highly specialized species in times of environmental change, are poorly understood.
Our group wants to study the microclimatic features of peatlands around the world. As these are very complex and diverse ecosystems, we need your participation to understand peatland microclimate at a global scale!
